Get involved in the health and environment of your neighborhood and our city by committing to taking care of the trees on your street. Do you want to plant a tree in your yard? See the list of recommended species. Need help? Contact Openlands’ TreeKeepers www.openlands.org or Friends of the Park www.fotp.org. Don’t have a yard or room to plant? Volunteer to plant trees for others by contacting Chicago Gateway Green www.gatewaygreen.org. All of our Chicago Tree Initiative partners plant and maintain trees – and are just waiting for you to get involved!
Another way to get involved is to give! The City of Chicago will do its part but as the city’s urban forest expands, so does the cost of upkeep. You or your employer can help plant and maintain trees by contributing to the Urbs in Horto Tree Fund, administered by the Chicago Community Trust www.cct.org. Community groups can apply for project funding at any time. Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded by the Chicago Community Trust as funds are available. You can also donate new trees to your local park through the Chicago Park District’s Green Deeds program here.
